De Familia,

Hello all! Gubbio is a small Italian village in central Italy. The people that live there are farmers, industrialists and work other businesses that a small village would need. It is so peaceful there. I had the opportunity to visit some family in Gubbio in 1993. They are wonderful people. They accepted us like they had known us all our lives. We had a great time with them too. Our cousins Mauro and Francesca are the only ones, of about 30, that speak English. We were never far from their side.

It was a chance of a lifetime to walk the same streets that our grandparents walked. We saw the house where our Nonna Carmella lived as a child. When you see these small villages in today's world you really must use your imagination as to what the village was like in the late 1800s and early 1900s. That is the time frame that our Grandfather (Nonno) came to America for a better life. He sent for his wife and child later. Traveling across the ocean in a ship at that time is not anything like we have today. Can you imagine hauling around a steamer trunk? (I feel like that sometimes when I travel these days.)

This is a picture of my father's family taken about the early 1920s, in Superior, WY. Nonno went there to work in the coal mines. Nonna and the kids took a train out west when he sent for them. They lived in a coal miners village in Superior, WY. My father is the young boy on the left. Is this an Italian Familia or what?

I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday. I am planning to help my friend, Linda, with a knitting class tonight at the Moore Library. Wish us luck.

Blessings to all, Terri
