Okra - an Oklahoma Tradition

Here is the process of growing Okra in your garden. Not everyone likes it, but we only like it breaded with corn meal and fried. I have been freezing some of it too because it will be a nice summery addition to a winter meal. We don't do the Gumbo thing, but they do put Okra in Gumbo. An Oklahoma Tradition is a meal of Fried Okra, Pinto Beans and Cornbread. (My parents were Yankees so we only had Fried Okra.)
Okra plants in the garden. Clean it up.

Add the tips to the compost bucket.

Coat it with cornmeal.

Bag it for the freezer.

Then fry it in a skillet and eat it up. It may sound or look very appetizing. I guess you could say it is an acquired taste.

Ciao Buon appetite

I LOVE okra. It's right next to home grown tomatoes.
