Yesterday I was visiting with a niece and nephew enjoying a nice Sunday afternoon. I took my knitting with me to finish a project while we visited. When I got my knitting out my niece came over and bounced on the ottoman saying "Aunt Terri, I know how to knit." I was flabbergasted. She explained to me that she is able to take Knitting as an elective at her grade school. A mother of a teacher comes in to teach the class. She wanted to knit so I looked in my bag (the wash cloth bag) and pulled out a bag of cotton Sugar 'N Cream thread and a pair of circular needles. I got her started on the Grandmother's Wash Cloth and she took right to it. Now that there is another knitter in the family I will have to work on expanding her horizons. I can see a future knit-in attendee in my mists.
Now my nephew is excited about knitting and he wants to learn how to knit. I promised him we will work on it very soon.
Happy Knitting! Ciao!

Good luck to your niece.
All my kids knows how to knit, the boys used to be really good at it. I taught Marta and her cousin to crochet this summer, they made outfits for a teddy bear thay made in Legoland.
Its great when you can encourage a new generation!
what fun! I learned to knit (and cross stitch, embroider) with my grandma, aunt and mom.
Special times ahead!
It's so nice to have other family members to knit with. And especially nieces and nephews. I remember when I taught my nephew to crochet. He was about nine. He taught me to finger weave. That was a very special afternoon!
