Babe's

Last week DH & I took a day trip down to Dallas to see Son #2 and course it is the rule that the parents buy dinner. So I picked Babe's. Babe's serves chicken, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn, salad and the best biscuits. We got there about 10 minutes after it opened and it was pretty full. They were waiting outside for tables when we left.

It's a very cute country place and I can't believe it is only about 10 minutes from his apartment. Just go down a few of the back roads and you are in the Texas countryside. Hard to believe Dallas/Ft Worth is right around the corner and not to mention the Texas Motor Speedway.

The food was good and it was your own fault if you left hungry. We didn't have to worry about that. Here are a few facts about Babe's:
1. "Babe" is Mary Beth's nickname, since she developed the recipes they named the restraurant after her.
2. The building was built in 1908. The varnished wood inside the restraurant came from the Plano Lumber Co, in 1908.
3. The honey is TEXAS BRUSH HONEY made from bees visiting catclaw, mesquite, white brush, huajilo and persimmon. (Only in Texas folks.) It is very good and good for local allergies.
4. They use Canola Oil exculsively.
We had a good time and will go back someday. I learned about Babe's from Austin. He was a young man who shared our train ride home from Ft. Worth last month. He bought the t-shirt and I asked him about it. He said it was the best chicken he ever had. It is very good.
