Dog Days of Summer

I've been thinking of summers long ago. Our AC went out yesterday (fixed today) and I felt like I was living back in my parents house. The inside temp was 82F and the outside was 90F. We had the windows open and fans going. It reminded me of when you slept in front of the bedroom window, in your summer cotton pjs (no comment Kay), waiting for a breeze to come your way. I would look outside my window at the full moon and just gaze. My parents only had a watercooler when we were growing up.

Remember when the days seem to go on forever and summer lasted a life time? We would lay on a quilt on the grass in the shade and look up at the clouds and name the images we saw. I must admit I still do this today - sometimes when I'm driving - shhhh! DH and I enjoy homemade icecream. One of my earliest memories is of me being about four years old and sitting on the old wooden seagreen ice cream maker while daddy turned it. Do you remember sitting out in lawn chairs ( the kind that scratched you from the banding or the metal ones with the paint that had a white film) eating watermellon and spitting the seeds into the yard? Or how about catching lightening bugs and putting them in a jar? I remember the smells and sounds of dinner cooking and afterwards when the dishes were being cleaned. We all sat at the dinner table and the 5:30 news was always on the tv. The phone never rang during dinner time. There weren't any kids playing outside during this time either.

Summers these days are different. Here's a day with my nephew enjoying his swimming pool. DH did a good job putting this puzzle together. He said it just sort of fell into place.

It wouldn't be summer without buying baseball cards. Some of the packages date back to 1988, with the gum included. HA no I did not eat the gum!
Here's an old bridge in Stillwater. We used to drive over this bridge going to OSU football games. Now they are upgrading the bridge and took this one down. It appears that it will be used on a new road leading to a vo-tech center. This was #1 son's bridge - if you know what I mean.
Of course there is always time to teach a nephew how to make pasta for the very first time. He is ready to move on to the raviolis.

Enjoy your summer! Ciao!
