The Changing of the Guard

After seeing Prince Albert Memorial and driving through London we took our places across the street from St. James Palace to see the start of the Changing of the Guard. Here is a guard on duty at one of the royal buildings. The streets have to be cleared for the changing of the guard parade. Apparently this bicyclist didn't heed the warning. They were quietly admonishing her for not listening to them.
On the other hand, these Bobbies were just fine.

St. James Palace was the home to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and their brood of eight children. Once they determined a bigger home was needed they moved to Buckingham Palace. The band leads the way for the new guards. The old guards are on duty and are getting ready for the change themselves.

Our tour guide, Hermione, placed us right in front on the curb in front of the palace.

We followed the band down the street to Buckingham Palace. Some of these pictures will look familiar to you. I've heard that the flower beds always have red flowers in them - but I couldn't find out why? Anyone?
Does anyone, besides me, remember watching Captain Kangaroo and they showed the changing of the guard? There was a song about Alice going to the Palace. I digress to my childhood. This was my first glimpse of England which started my desire to go there.

This is the Queen Victoria Memorial.

Yes, traffic stops during this event. I guess you have to be a good logistic planner not to be here during this time of day.

This is a view of St. James Park. We should be walking down the path with our parasols. A nice relaxing afternoon.

Lunch is next and we push on to our next adventure.
Ciao!
