The Lake District

The Lake District has some of the most beautiful countrysides you could ever see. I wasn't able to catch a picture of the water streams coming down off the hills, they appear to come from a natural spring. I think I could live in this countryside home without any reservations. Doesn't look so peaceful? This is the steeple near our stop. We stopped for lunch and a quick walk of the area. We bought some fresh gingerbread crackers from The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop. Yes, the word of mouth got out to all the tourists that the gingerbread is a must to have. Check it out, www.grasmeregingerbread.co.uk

I was hoping to see some autumn and I did in Grasmere.

Walking the dog is a social event for a lot of people. This cute little Westie was enjoying the day.

More autumn.

It wouldn't be a vacation if you did take pictures of each other.

We are on a boat ride on Windemere. The word "mere" means lake. There are several meres in the area and all are calm and beautiful. Sitting near us are a couple of K-9s enjoying the view. This is a different Westie than before. The doggies checked each other out and decided the view was too nice to bother with each other.

You will find homes like this along the shores of Windemere. Can you just imagine the hillside when the leaves are changing?

We met this lovely couple during our boat ride and had a very nice visit with them. They live in southern England and have cousins in the States which they visit. During our conversation we dubbed them Lord and Lady Windemere. They got a kick out of that.

The little bah-ba-bahs in the fields. Look at all those socks, scarves and sweaters waiting to be knitted.

We picked up a train once our boat landed on the other side. This took us down the way a bit to pick up our bus. Cute train station.

This was a nice afternoon with the cool dry weather. As I write these posts I have come to realize that I wish I had written more things down in my travel book, such as names, places, comments and so on. Then I think about how much I would have missed while writing all these things down in the book. I'll have to do a defrag of my brain to refresh some things.

Ciao!

So beautiful!

Did they happen to say when or how the stone fences were built? Or by who?

No, they didn't say and we didn't ask. Lyndon told us that the stones come from the fields and they are free laid on each other, which means no motar. We could see that several had areas were they had fallen from rain pressure. Some were cased inside wire fences to hold them up. We didn't see any sheep jump over them either.
