Right now, Pushing on to Windsor Castle
This is still Saturday afternoon. After a quick lunch we met up with the tour bus and drove west out of London to the town of Windsor. Walking into this town is like taking a step back in time. The shoppes are quaint and the town's folk are enjoying the sunny weather. (Keep an eye on the sky as we go along. Just perfect for me.)
I'll let the architecture in the pictures talk for themselves. Just breathtaking.
I don't know what you plan to do with your moat when it drys up - but I'm taking my advice from the Royal Gardner's and turning mine into a floral delight. Bocce anyone? Oh, excuse me, Cricket anyone?
Can you imagine getting lost inside this castle?
We enter into the inter sanctum of the castle. This is Windsor Castle where the Queen Mum's body was laid to rest. Windsor is where HRH Prince Charles and Camilla were married and had their wedding blessed. It's not that far from London and a nice country drive once you pass Heathrow Airport.
I can't imagine any damsel being in distress in this castle. We toured the castle and saw Queen Mary's Doll House. This is the first doll house in history. The gardens are lovely and look like they never need care.
I need a cuppa while enjoying this view. Windsor Castle had a terrible fire in 1992. Part of the castle was destroyed and was rebuilt. Our tour guide told us that during the fire the people of Windsor came to help Prince Andrew with a fire line to remove the valuables. They formed a line and the priceless objects were moved to safety one by one. There's a bit of history to tell the grandkids.
Notice the scaffolling? You will see a lot of this around London, too. As we get older we all need help with our body parts. Stop and look at the picture and tell me that you can't see Queen Elizabeth or Mary, Prince Albert or King George V taking a stroll through the grounds.

Oh, I would love to visit! What is that red draping over part of the castle wall in one of the pictures? Is it some type of plant with red foliage and stems?
It is a vine like the Virginia Creeper. It was all beautiful.
