It's January!

I think the best way to start a new year is with something new. How about new sheets and a coverlet? Works for me. Actually, the real credit goes to sister D. We have been talking for some time about a new look in the bedroom. In case you haven't noticed that is a FULL size bed. It was given to my husband from his Mother and it is a piece of furniture neither one of us ever discusses about changing. Okay - maybe a new paint job - but never getting rid it. I really like the paisley coverlet - I am a Flower Child of the 60s and BLUE is my favorite color. Orange comes in second. Saturday was the first Knit-In for 2008. It was jammed packed. If you want to go to knit-in you better plan to be there early, or you might not get a seat. We always have so much fun. Games, prizes, good food and most importantly FRIENDS!
Sunday morning I went out to get the paper and saw this beautiful sunrise. I rushed back into the house to get my camera before it disappeared. A funny thing about Oklahoma sunrises -that they aren't much different from Oklahoma sunsets, you just look in a different direction.

Have you seen the cartoon about when a woman watches TV and the difference when a man watches TV? It shows the man sitting there WATCHING TV. The woman has her knitting, books, the cat, the phone, etc.... all around her. We call that being a multi-tasker. I am that Woman, She is I, I have met the enemy and she is us. As I write this post tonight I am watching the local PBS station. The "Pioneers of TV" was very good. I grew up watching Johnny Carson and I have the tapes. Goodness, I miss him, his humor, his great guest list and his sense of being. It was great watching him every night. I remember seeing Bette Midler on his show for the first time, Tiny Tim's marriage, Dean Martin, the animals and all the other wonderful everyday people he would share with us. It seems today that the late night talk shows either have only celebrities or music groups on their shows and that's it. Carson had some traditions of having the high school bird whistlers on his show once every year after their competition. Do you remember seeing the lady who collected potato chips in different shapes? They had a bowl of extra chips next to Johnny's desk. He took a chip from the bowl and ate it. The lady quickly turned her head towards him with a look of shock. What a dirty TV trick to pull on her, but he got away with it with his innocent face. Great shows.
Now as I ramble on about Johnny Carson I am watching "The American Jews". It has just started and looks very interesting. I think I'll close now, fix a SMALL bowl of ice cream and watch the show.
Ciao and Happy January!
P.S. This month is not starting out as a sleeper. Our oldest son is getting married at the end of the month. Lots of fun things to do and lots of work as well. I am enjoying every minute of it. Sometimes I stop and cry about it. I cry because I am here at this point in my life and can't believe it seemed happen overnight. Afterall, he was just 3 years old the other day. I cry with happy and sad emotions. I guess it's a Mother thing. I love it.

I too enjoyed the "Pioneers of Television" this evening. Johnny Carson was so funny. I always feel slightly disappointed when I watch either Leno or Letterman cause they're just don't have the magic he did. I remember the tomahawk episode and the interview with Arnold Palmer's wife.

It's a big transition when your kids get married. Now we have to share them with another family and it's hard. But in return you'll get some great new kids to love! (and sometimes grandkids)
