Knitting - it's what we do

I had a visit to the dentist office today. Since I was a walk in (crown popped off last night) I was the last patient to be seen. I visited with a young mother, Kia, and her beautiful daughter, Dee(8). Dee was looking at a children's magazine and showed her mother a page with knitted items on it.

I asked Dee if she knitted, she said no but wants to learn. We visited a little bit and then I excused myself and went to my car. I keep various knitting supplies in my truck and picked out a small bag, yarn and needles. When I came back into the office I told Dee to come sit by me.

I showed her the knitting that was started before while teaching someone else to knit. She watched as I showed her how the needle went in through the loops and how to wrap the yarn around it and slip it off the needle.

Some of you, and you know who you are, won't believe this - but, I taught Dee how to knit in the ENGLISH style. I thought this would be easier for her. I even showed her Mom how to do it too. Lucky for Dee her grandma knits and can help her when she has a problem. I was surprised that within the 30 minutes we had together Dee picked up the knitting so quickly. Ahhhhh.

How was your day?

Ciao!

Britt-Arnhild - I knit like Gabi. Hilda knits English, where they throw the yarn from the right hand. Those are the only two methods I know of here in America and across the pond.

You're right, Terri - English is essier to learn for some reason. I believe it's because for most right-handers, the yarn in the left hand freezes up most beginner's brain. Being a leftie I can only go on what they've told me. lol MG
