Some Firsts and Lasts

FIRSTS:
This is a Praying Mantis on my kitchen window. ON THE INSIDE! I don't know how it got in the house, but they eat bugs don't they?
We only got three tomatoes out of our garden this year! It's true what they say about the bees.
This is the first summer that I have NOT canned salsa, green beans and tomatoes and onions. It's kind of nice but I will miss the food this winter.
This is the first house I had my first meal in.

I had my last meal in this house a couple of weeks ago. I sat there with my sisters, brother and niece as we dined on Del Rancho hamburgers. It was bittersweet. I enjoyed the company, but it was hard to realize it was the last meal.
I've never seen my Mother's house in this manner. I will always see it with a Christmas tree in front of the windows at the end. My Mother always had beautiful Christmas trees and Christmas was always a special time in our family and in this house. I remember sitting around the Christmas tree with my sisters singing carols, getting ready for midnight Mass and wrapping presents in front of the tree.
My childhood bedroom. Of course, I think it looked better when I had it decorated in Yellow and Orange; still two of my favorite colors. Real hardwood floors. My bed was up against the wall with the foot of the bed ending at the window. I would sleep there with the window opened about two inches during the winter. I loved looking out at the winter moon and sky with the winter air coming in.
You won't find a light switch like this one at Lowe's or Home Depot. Wouldn't it be great for a kids room?
Eras end and I don't think we realize the impact it has on us until later on. It's sad to see my first home empty when it had been filled with family and friends so many times. How did a family of over 30 fit into this space? We did it and enjoyed it. Many ravioli dinners were eaten here as well as birthday parties, holiday celebrations and quite visits with Mother and Daddy.
I hope the next owners will make good memories in it too.
Ciao!
