Before, During and After

This is the BEFORE picture. I really call it "Early Derrick". We have slept in this bed (full size) for 35 years. It is special to me because my Mother-in-Law, Maxine, gave it to Kevin over 35 years ago. As you see we lived in this bedroom for over 30 years. When the kids were living at home it was a bedroom/office. Now this room we call "The Computer Room" has evolved into a "Computer/Crafts/Office room. This house is just too small for us.

This is what it looks like empty waiting for the new carpet to arrive. Wow - where did all this room come from?

Now, here it is - THE AFTER! I call it "Derrick Italiano". I have planned this new bedroom for over a year. Believe me - that's a lot of HGTV Room Makeovers watched over the year. I won't even go into the details about the process it took to decide everything. Just when you think you have all the logistics planned out - BAM! (oops - looks like I watched some Foodnetwork shows too). One little decision changes not once but twice which sends everything into a frenzy. We went from a full size bed to a queen size bed, until we went to buy it and the new mattresses. Once you lay down and see that there really isn't THAT much room difference between the full and queen you "take it to the mattresses" (Godfather I). Therefore, Long Live the King!

The king fits perfectly between the windows and the adventure I had to change a queen size comforter SET and bring home a king is memorable (only to me unless you heard my story 5 times.) The comforter/curtains are Home & Gardens Medina Paisley. Hey, I'm a middle age Flower Child and wore Paisley when it stood for something. I'll tell you what it stood for once I remember. The bed/bedding makes a big difference in this room. I feel like I am in a hotel room - one of the better ones. The mattress is so comfortable; I don't think either one of us is snoring now or we're just dead asleep and we don't hear each other.

That's Leonardo DaVinci hanging proudly on the wall. My cousin Mauro sent it to me from Gubbio. I have another piece of art work of Florence to hang on the wall. I got it last year at the Arts Festival. I am hoping the artist will be there again and I can get another piece of art. More furniture is planned to come into this room and I'm sure it will shrink it up terribly. But, we'll live with it.

Buona Notte (Good Night) Sogni Dolci (Sweet Dreams)
